Editing on Final Cut Pro for iPadĪs familiar as Final Cut Pro might look on the iPad, it’s a very different editing experience to that of the Mac. So far, so weirdly new but equally exciting. The latter is perhaps the most unique addition to this version of Final Cut Pro we’ve never been able to shoot and insert footage as directly as this before and it will be a huge bonus for anyone who uses their iPad for filming duties. On the iPad, they reside on opposite sides to that of the Mac version and I have no idea why.įootage can be imported from your camera roll, the iPad file system, or shot directly on the iPad’s camera and shoved into the project. The only slightly odd decision on Apple’s behalf is to swap the positions of the Inspect column and media bins. The good news for anyone coming from Final Cut Pro on the Mac is that the iPad version looks immediately familiar yet pleasingly fresh. I wanted this to be a real test for the new app. Fortuitously, I’d already shot some a-roll for a forthcoming YouTube video earlier that day and fancied diving straight in to see how easy it would be to edit. This is a lovely thing, but it also hints at what is clearly going to be a rather different experience to that of Final Cut Pro on the Mac. We’re eased into editing life on the iPad with the offer of a demo project with which to try out the new features. I maintain that this is an absolute bargain and strongly disagree with those who think it should be included with the Mac version. When you first open Final Cut Pro on the iPad, you’re treated to some rather lovely HDR footage (if your iPad Pro supports it) and an immediate reminder that you’ll need to subscribe if you want to use it long-term.Ī free month trial is offered, but beyond that, you’ll have to cough up either £4.99 monthly or £49 annually. I still wasn’t prepared for what happened next, though. Apple’s version 1.0 is always going to delight and frustrate in equal measure. It’s not really for pro editors but for the next gen pro editors that will learn the fundamentals on their only power device.Ī mixed bag, right? That’s to be expected. Though, it’s a step in the right direction, and can become really something special. The line draw tool is the only really cool feature. Also, $19 to get the full video tutorials, to be able to figure out some of the basics, is almost offensive. The controls for things aren’t obvious and the competition, at this point, makes it easier and feel more natural to use. The fact that usually it’s shift+click to select and with FCP for iPad Pro, it’s S+click. The inconsistencies between it and other software is frustrating. It looks like Final Cut but feels like an upgraded iMovie.ĭysfunctionally unintuitive and lacking features, for an Apple App, given the benefits they have from making the hardware and OS. While people who have been editing on iPad for years with iMovie and LumaFusion will think this is a great alternative. MacOS FCP users will think there is way too much missing and it’s a watered-down version. Here’s a selection of soundbites from some of my Twitter mates.ĭepending on where you are coming from you’re gonna love it or hate it. As soon as Final Cut Pro arrived on the App Store yesterday, Twitter erupted.Īpple has clearly been investing significant time with content creators and influencers, as demonstrated by the sudden emergence of detailed reviews and hands-on reports. During a weekend away, in which my iPad Pro and Pencil were taken in and out of my backpack a number of times, it only came off when I didn’t want to once. The magnets in the Pencil and iPad keep it nicely in place the majority of the time. It’s also pretty lightweight, without feeling cheap or flimsy. The second-generation Pencil is a little thicker than an average pen or pencil, but not overly so, and not enough to make holding it awkward. That conveniently also doubles as a nice place to store it when you’re not using it, whereas keeping it sticking out of the Lightning port when you’re not using the original Pencil would kind of make you a madman. For the second-generation Apple Pencil, you simply plop the device onto the magnetic charger on the top edge of your iPad, and it’ll charge. Gone is the incredibly unintuitive and awkward charging technique of plugging the Pencil into your iPad’s Lightning port. Of course, the reason Apple added the flat edge has less to do with gripping the Pencil, and more to do with charging it. Something about being able to rest my pointer finger on that flat edge gives it a better grip. The first-generation Apple Pencil offered a fully round design, and while some will appreciate the look, I find that the new Apple Pencil 2, with its flat edge, looks and feels a little more natural. However, according to Broad spokesman Lauren Girard, the museum will actually be presenting their own iteration of the London retrospective, with significant works unique to their presentation. "It has a lean curatorial staff but the back-end expertise and the art-world clout needed to secure first-rate loans." "Hosting traveling shows makes sense for the Broad," according to Finkel. She also cites the Broad's forthcoming Yayoi Kusama’s “Infinity Mirrored Rooms” survey, which originated at Washington D.C.'s the Hirshhorn Museum. "Now the museum’s commitment to hosting traveling exhibitions from other institutions to refresh its own program is becoming clearer," Finkel writes. dinner party question: what exactly does the Broad plan to do with itself, beyond exhibiting Eli and Edythe Broad's (unquestionably first-rate) collection. To New York Times art writer Jori Finkel, the newly announced exhibit signals a potential answer to a favorite L.A. The New York Times reports that the Broad will be the exhibit's sole U.S. The exhibit will be mounted in collaboration with London's Royal Academy of Arts, where a similar retrospective will be on view from late September through early December 2017. The exhibition will trace the evolution of the artist’s six-decade career through a series of thematic chapters, according to a statement from the Broad. since the artist's seminal 1965 Pasadena Museum of Art exhibition. The exhibit will be the first major retrospective of Johns' work ever shown in L.A., and the first Johns' survey show in L.A. Johns, who is considered one of the most important living artists, is a painter, sculptor and printmaker best-known for his flag paintings. Jasper Johns, “Something Resembling Truth, Feb 10 – at The Broad.Los Angeles' Broad Museum has announced plans to host a sweeping Jasper Johns exhibit early next year. The Broad will also be launching a diverse slate of public programming to be presented in conjunction with the show. on the first Thursday of every month during the exhibition’s run (so, for the calendar-challenged, that would be Mar. In celebration of this rare opportunity to consider Johns’ entire career in depth, The Broad will host free First Thursdays with free standby admission to the special exhibition from 4-7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, free for children 17 and under, and will include same-day general admission for The Broad’s third floor galleries. “In the Studio”, “Fragments and Faces”, “Seasons and Cycles”, “Time and Transience” are some of the other themes that cleverly thread together John’s long-ranging, inventive, revolutionary and influential career which impacted such disparate artists as Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Bruce Nauman, Ed Ruscha, John Baldessari and Sherrie Levine, among others. The American flag paintings are huddled in the first room, starting the show off with a loud bang and it only gathers momentum from there: here, are all the typography works there, the found materials collages another space holds the targets. Organized thematically, early and late works are grouped together showing the artist’s evolution through their juxtaposition. Tracing the evolution of the artist’s wide-ranging practice through a series of thematic chapters, the show stretches across the full range of Johns’ materials, motifs and techniques-including his unique use of encaustic (heated beeswax) and found-material collage in paintings-and the innovations he has achieved in sculpture and the graphic arts by expanding the possibilities of traditional media. Even a quick turn through the galleries, a glimpse of which is captured here, is enough to understand Johns influence on art. Whether you’re just getting acquainted with John’s work or are a long-time fan, this show, the first full survey in more than a half century, which includes more than 120 pieces from public and private collections is, as Broad director Joanne Heyler, the host co-curator of the show alongside Associate Curator Ed Schad, accurately summed up, “transcendent”. The exhibition title is taken from a 2006 interview in which Johns said, “Yet, one hopes for something resembling truth, some sense of life, even of grace, to flicker, at least, in the work.” Here hope burns bright. This is made even more urgent given the fact that this is the show’s only U.S. If there was ever a reason to design a trip to Los Angeles between now and mid-May, the new exhibition at the Broad Museum, “Something Resembling Truth”, a retrospective of Jasper John’s work, presented in collaboration with The Royal Academy, London, would be it. I think this song is about a girl that he lost. Isnt it nice to know, that the lining is silver. I loved the original of this song (The Thief), and thought it couldnt get much better. Yeah, Im on the up and up and yeah, theres nothing left to. And I havent given up, given up on what I know Im capable of. Cause Im on the up and up, Im on the up and up. And the light, there at the end is where Ill be. But Im finally catching on to it, yeah, the past is just a conduit. On a deeper level however, it is one more piece in the two-album story that Matthew Thiessen and Relient K have been painting through their 2009 "Forget And Not Slow Down" and their 2013 "Collapsible Lung." As this is part of the second part of the story (which is much more dark and dwells on the dysfunctional side of romance), I highly encourage you to check out Stephen C. And the hope of a new day is sometimes hard to see. Whether Thiessen is painting a metaphorical or realistic personal experience is beyond our knowledge. Lookin at the chart but nothins toppin No reaction. I walked away from every good think that I had.Īs is quite obvious, the song is about a one-night stand and the remorse he feels, not only for doing it, but also for not pursing the girl afterwards and throwing her aside almost as a fallback girl for a "rainy day" that he waited to long on even though he really did like her ("never thought it'd hurt so bad to see you with another."). Business plans start at $12.50/month/user with unlimited uploads. Loom pricing: Free for 25 videos of up to five minutes. Still, Loom will get the job done without a lot of fuss for most users. The iPhone and iPad apps can't combine video with screencasting. The Android version, for example, requires users to enter their Google password in order to log in instead of using the built-in Android support for Google accounts, which is odd. The desktop app works well, but we found the mobile apps limited in confusing ways. And you can always download your videos and store them somewhere else if you're getting close to that 25 video threshold. It's limited, sure, but great for quickly showing something to a collaborator, coworker, and/or archenemy. With the free version of Loom, you can store up to 25 videos of up to five minutes each. It's all very quick, which makes it, overall, the best screen recorder for PC. You can do some basic editing in the browser, if you want, or you can copy the link to share the video. Once you finish, your video will be uploaded to Loom. Loom isn't overly complicated when it's time to record: you can choose whether you want to record just your screen, your screen with webcam video, or just your webcam. If you want to quickly record something and share a link, give Loom a chance. Many video conferencing, communication, and productivity tools-not to mention your mobile phone-have added screen recording to their feature sets, so it's worth checking if you can get the capabilities you need from a tool that's already in your stack. One thing to note: It's possible that an app you already use has screen recording built in. The quality of the final product can make or break user engagement, so we also considered the post-capture editing features. Of course, the process doesn't end with the screen recording.
